Your apps sit on a dial at the edge of the screen. Turn the dial to find an app. Tap the app to open it.

Drag, flick, or scroll the dial. Tap a name to open it. Hold the dial to jump by letter.

drag or flick the dial: The dial turns. Each app clicks into the notch.
tap any app on the dial: The app opens. The dial turns the app into the notch.
tap the dial while it turns: The dial stops. No app opens.
hold the dial: Letters replace the apps. Slide to a letter and release to jump to it.
hold the app in the notch: A menu shows the app shortcuts, app info, and remove from dial.
hold the clock: The setup opens: shape, theme, apps, and feel.
tap search: Search all your apps. The 5 apps that you last opened from search sit at the top. Tap the cross on a recent app to remove it, or tap clear. Tap + dial to add an app to the dial.
tap the corner button: The button sits in the bottom corner on the dial side. By default it searches the web. In the setup you can give it one app instead, such as the camera.
hold the quick app button: Pick a different quick app, or tap clear.
tap the mic button: Say an app name. The dial swells with your voice, and your words show at the top. When the words name one app, the dial turns to it and the app opens. If not, search opens with the words.
j k Enter: With a hardware keyboard, j and k turn the dial. Enter opens the app.

The demo on this page does the first 4 gestures, a tap on the corner button, and the keys. Your scroll wheel also turns it.

5 layouts.

Each layout puts a radial dial over the wallpaper. Tap a layout to load it in the demo.

Each layout can sit on the right or the left edge.

28 themes.

The 4 phone themes use a tinted dot-hand art. The 23 Omarchy themes each bring their own wallpaper. The koi-watercolor theme is the default. Tap a theme to apply it to the demo and to this page.

You can also use your own photo as the wallpaper. The theme then sets only the colours.

no internet permission.

Detent does not have the internet permission. It does not send data anywhere.

permission	why Detent needs it
`QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES`	To list the apps you can open and to find your default apps for the first dial.
`VIBRATE`	For haptics.
`SET_WALLPAPER`	For the `lock screen` switch.
`RECORD_AUDIO`	Optional. For the mic button. The microphone is on only while Detent listens. The speech service of your phone turns your voice into text.
notification access	Optional. For unread dots. Detent reads only which apps have notifications. It does not keep the notification text.

install.

You need Android 10 or later.

Download detent.apk from the latest release.
Open the file on your phone.
If Android asks, allow your browser or file manager to install apps.
Open Detent and follow the setup.
On the ready step, tap set as home app.

To install from a computer, connect the phone with USB debugging on and run this command:

adb install detent.apk
